We’ve added a new feature which allows you to encode your own video files off-line, and then upload them for your multi-bitrate On-Demand streaming video.

Simply create your different versions of the same video using your preferred video encoder, and then upload them to the 247 Platform. Under the On Demand tab in your video, you now have the option to select your uploaded files, and one of the Presets, and copy the uploaded file rather than having to transcode your video to the desired options!

Whereas before, you would have had to transcode your video to the desired outputs, we’ve been working with clients who are already generating their own different outputs and want a way to quickly upload these files.

Don’t worry if you’re just creating one video – the Transcoder service is still available for all to use!

This means those of you with the workflow in place to generate multiple versions of your file can now create them all off-line using your video encoding software, upload and apply them to an On-Demand video.

Need to limit the websites you embed your video in? Don’t want a particular site sharing your content, or want to limit to two or three partner sites? We’ve now added Referrer settings so you can do just that!

In your Video’s page you’ll now see a new tab called Referrers, giving you control on what TLD’s ( Top level domains ) your video can or cannot be embedded on using referral tracking. This feature is now available to all uses, and documentation on it can be found at http://docs.247platform.com/index.php/Limiting_Embedding_onto_websites_by_URL.

This is only one part of the security tool-kit provided by the 247 Platform, but we hope it goes to help control access of your content at a simple level. If you’re after more information on how to control access to your video on a per-user basis, then we recommend you check out the API documentation for doing just that, available at http://docs.247platform.com/index.php/API

There are cases when selling a video on-line is going to hurt ticket sales for the actual event. It’s a common practice for sporting events to limit the TV and digital showing of live games to protect ticket sales, or sometimes you only want people within a set distance of a location to have access to a video.

With the new Exclusions we’ve added the the API, you can now define a location via Longitude and Latitude, a distance in miles, and if to exclude the people inside that radius or outside of it. Once created, people being affected by this exclusion won’t be able to view the video in the same way as any other Geoblocking rule you would create.

You can see the API documentation for implementing Exclusions on the Wiki, with some examples.

Over the last year the 247 Platform has grow at an outstanding rate. We’ve more hours of video being served each day, and our features in the API and website have grown as our users have asked to do new and interesting things with the service. One thing that’s struggled to keep up however is our documentation and help site.

Today we’re launching two new things. First, a Wiki containing our API and site documentation and help, so people can quickly look up what they need and we can keep up with the rate of change so developers can use the new things. The other is this blog, which we’ll use to announce new services and changes to the 247 Platform.

The Wiki can be found at http://docs.247platform.com/ . We’re working to get all the new API calls on there, along with the rest of the site documentation.
